Mestre Virgulino
Acclaimed musician and Capoeira master, Mestre Virgulino (Julio
Souza) was born in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, in 1973. Mestre
Virgulino began training Capoeira in 1984, developing a lifelong passion
for the music and the game that led him through 17 years of instruction
in both the music and movement of Capoeira in nations across the world.
In 2005, Mestre Virgulino received the rank of a master under the
direction of renowned Mestre Suassuna of Grupo Cordão de Ouro, and now
teaches with his wife in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
An accomplished musician, Mestre Virgulino is internationally recognized
for his expert skill in all areas of Capoeira music and traditional
rhythms, and has graced audiences across the world with his famed
musical impersonations of some of the Capoeira community's well-known
personalities, including legendary forefathers Mestres Bimba and
