Established in 1993, the Rutgers Capoeira Club is one of the first collegiate capoeira clubs run by students in the Northeast. Instructed by Professor Maranhão, the club is part of Grupo Liberdade de Capoeira led by Mestre Cigano. At our club, we practice a contemporary style of capoeira, inclusive of both "Angola" and "Regional" styles, and immerses in Brazilian culture through traditional songs as well as dances such as Samba de Roda and Maculele.
