Equipe Jô Capoeira was founded on December 18th 2005, by Contra Mestre Jô, the only female in the world to have established a Capoeira group. Contra Mestre Jô is respected throughout the world of capoeira, crowned with a group which has a tight and supportive core.

C.Mestre Jô is the founder of Centro Cultural Equipe Jô Capoeira. C. Mestre Jô is one of leading Capoeiristas in the world and has branches of her group in Juazeiro-Bahia, Niteroi-Rio de Janerio, New York City, Maryland, Greensboro, North Carolina, Washington D.C., Hawaii, Madrid, Cordoba, Hong Kong, Macau and Japan. C.Mestre Jô has also conducted classes at the University of California in Los Angeles and was interviewed by the Periodical Daily "New York Times" and starred in the Program "Egg" for PBS channel 13. In addition, C.Mestre Jô performed in the opening of the millennium party in New York cities, Times Square. She was interviewed for the Magazine Teenage Woman’s Health, Reviewed Capoeira, Magazine Practicing Capoeira, Magazine Planet Capoeira, Magazine Capoeira Vestibule. She was also a part of the Company Dances Brazil, with TurnÍs in the United States and Europe and "Clan Capoeira" in France. C.Mestre Jô has a vast portfolio of shows, video clips and photo shoots. C. Mestre Jo also worked for NIKE, GAP and SONY. In Brazil she participated in the program of the Faustao, Angelica, Program Boneco in 1998, Xuxa Park, in the Novel Turns Can, Four for Four, Malhaçao and others. C.Mestre Jô has traveled the world with Capoeira in Brazil: More than the 30 cities, Outside of Brazil: more than and 25 cities in the United States.
