Mestre Itapoan, the founder and president of Grupo GInga Associação de Capoeira Regional and the ABPC (Assosiação Brasileiras dos Professores da Capoeira), has been a Capoeiraista and teacher for over 40 years.
Mestre Itapoan, (Raimundo Cesar Alves de Almeida) began his life in Capoeira on September 22, 1964, when he was 7 years old. He studied directly under Mestre Bimba until Mestre Bimba moved to Goianha in 1972.
Mestre Itapoan has won several of the original Capoeira Championships organized by Mestre Bimba. In 1970 and 1971, he won the Bahian Championship Capoeira Games. As coach of the Ginga contingent, he won the Mestre Bimba Capoeira cup in 1974,1976, 1977 and 1978.
In 1990 Mestre Itapoan received the MEC an honorary medal for Natioanl Sport.
He is considered to be a living library of Capoeira. As a historian, he has authored several books on the practice and philosophy of Capoeira:
"Bimba, o Perfil do Meu Mestre", "Atenilo O Relampago da Capoeira Regional", "Bibliografia Critica da Capoeira", "Revista de Nageça", "Capoeira: Retalhos da Roda", and "A Saga do Mestre Bimba", which will be released in english in the latter part of 2006 in New York City .

Professor Kiki da Bahia was born in Bahia, Brazil in September 24, 1972. He has been doing Capoeira for over 24 years. In 1986, Kiki began training Capoeira directly under Mestre Itapoan, the founder of Grupo Ginga Asssociação de Capoeira Regional. Kiki was to be Mestre Itapoans' last direct student. Grupo Ginga in New York continues to operate under Mestre Itapoan's tutelage. Kiki began doing Capoeira, dance and percussion with several Afro-Brazilian carnival groups, including Malê de Balê, Zumbi dos Palmares, Asas da Liberdade and Ilê Aiyê. With Ilê Aiyê, Kiki toured five continent playing percussion. And as a Capoeiraista, Kiki da Bahia has performed at New Yorks’ Lincoln Center, Martha Graham Theater, Prospect Park Theater and, on ABC News and the reality show, Blind Date. Since arriving in the United States in 1995, Professor Kiki has been a teacher and representative of Grupo Ginga and has been teaching at various schools throughout New York City. Professor Kiki da Bahia, became a member and international representative of the ABPC (Associação Brasileiros dos Professores de Capoeira). Ginga - The first and basic swaying movement in all form of Capoeira. Mestre Bimba - He redefined the antiquated arts of Capoeira Angola and Batuque into a new form of fighting. He taught this new style of fighting to all regardless of race, gender or background.
